Special Exhibit: Hand Appliqué
Quilts by Gladys Raschka
December 2005
For those
of you who didn't make it into the shop, we wanted to share the special exhibit
of Glad's gorgeous hand appliquéd quilts that has filled our upstairs
Dec. 1-10. Glad comes from a long tradition of quiltmaking. Both her mother
and grandmother made quilts. She made her first quilt about 50 years ago and
has brought ceaseless energy to the family-owned quilt shop since it opened
in 1976. Customers, friends, and family all marvel at her wonderful hand appliqué
and hand quilting. Glad's eye for color and pattern in her appliqué, along
with her fine techniques have won her a faithful following. She was named Minnesota
Quilter of the Year in 1999. Glad loves to share her talents through displaying
her quilts, working with quilters on techniques and through ongoing block-of-the-month
programs at the shop. Click on the thumbnails below to take a closer look at
a few of Glad's quilts. Please note that the patterns
for many of these quilts are no longer availablewe have noted which ones
are available for purchase in the descriptions.
